Victorian Curriculum 2, The Arts – Music

Listed below are links to resources for music units for each of the levels in the Victorian Curriculum 2, The Arts – Music, that is F, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10, thus six units in total. These units have been completely reworked from previous iterations with a range of up-to-date resources. The unit format follows the methodology that I used in my teaching over many years as I found it engaged all students and could be adapted to suit varying class needs.

Each unit is based on a theme, because themes tie activities together giving student learning:

Motivation
A sense of trajectory
An understanding of music being an essential contributor to whole of world knowledge, experiences and development.

Importantly too, it provides cohesion for students who will all have differing levels of music knowledge and skills. It achieves this with open-ended questions, for example in listening tasks, music performance tasks which include easier and more complex parts, and open-ended composing tasks where students of differing music knowledge bases can nonetheless work cooperatively in groups, because of the uniting theme.
